Position: San Antonio, Tx- Lvl 2 Cable Tech

Description

Supporting different projects in the San Antonio area. 2 projects on the west side, 1 near the Rim and 1 in Kerrville.

Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables and determine length, slack, and label cables. Suspend and support cable correctly: cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, bridal rings, trapeze. Build closets (mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables and determine length, slack, and label cables.
  • Correctly suspend and support cable using cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, bridal rings, trapeze.
  • Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
  • Install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly, adhere to company labeling standards).
  • Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
  • Test continuity of horizontal and riser cable, use a volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable, use a tone set.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits.
  • Assume responsibility for effective performance of crew, provide training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
  • Fully complete all paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
  • Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Skills

Cable, fiber optic, install, telecommunication, splicing, copper fiber, fluke, cable dressing.

Qualifications
  • Experience pulling fiber optic cable.
  • Experience testing with fluke.
  • Experience terminating copper and fiber.
  • Experience dressing cable is a plus.
  • Self‑motivated, positive approach, professional, and able to develop and implement project process improvements.
  • Promote the company culture and mission to all stakeholders.
  • Act as company liaison for interface with customer representatives.
  • Proven problem‑solving, critical thinking, reading, writing and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb.
  • Ability to see and distinguish colors, read small print, hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Ability to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.

This is a contract position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay And Benefits

Pay range: $23.00 – $27.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on job classification and length of employment. Benefits may change.
