Position OverviewThe Water Damage Specialist (intermediate level) has four objectives: (1) act as head of the water damage team that handles residential losses and small commercial losses; (2) apply knowledge and technical competence in IICRC standard work practices for water and mold damage; (3) use, care for, and maintain water extraction equipment, portable drying equipment, and moisture detection instruments; and (4) determine the extent, dimension, and distribution of moisture and document water losses.
Intermediaries support the development of basic level technicians and assist advanced technicians on complex or large-scale projects. Intermediaries in catastrophe (CAT) service can manage multiple losses for water, including organizing temporary workers. Qualifications include 12 months of experience at the Basic Level of Water Damage in BELFOR or equivalent, and direct participation in at least 25 water damage projects. This position represents level 3 in the progressive itinerary of Water Damage.
- Receive instructions from the Supervisor and direct teams in using the appropriate PPE for the job.
- Review daily project requirements, document progress, and notify managers of progress and challenges.
- Provide field documentation, photographic records, charts, and sketches for various projects.
- Perform daily vehicle safety inspections and maintain vehicles in good condition.
- Comply with BELFOR standards to safeguard property.
- Demonstrate strong customer service knowledge and practice.
- Work under time constraints to meet deadlines.
- Travel and work at night and on weekends as needed.
- Report time worked and equipment and consumables used in a timely and accurate manner.
- Attend BELFOR operations and required security training courses.
- Supervise and perform Water Damage Basic tasks.
- Gather pictures for job files.
- Maintain equipment used in debris removal, containment/drying chambers, wall cavity drying, pump systems, carpet seam/cushion removal, and baseboard removal.
- Identify Class 4 material, take moisture measurements, and deploy effective drying/restoration techniques.
- Evaluate the integrity of affected structural materials and contents for direct and indirect water damage; assess restoration costs vs replacement costs.
- Create moisture maps using available tools.
- Supervise small crews on the above tasks.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Working knowledge of IICRC S500 Water Damage Standard.
- Working knowledge of IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard.
- Current IICRC WRT designation.
- Familiarity with BELFOR Water Damage Book.
- Proper use of meters and infrared (IR) camera; understanding affected vs. unaffected building materials and contents.
- Ability to draw sketches, read floor plans, complete a Moisture Content Log and a Psychrometric Log, and determine drying goals.
- Understanding of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, electrical power specifications, and electrical circuits.
- Proficiency with Hydro Sensor, Thermal Hygrometer, Nav Pro Moisture Meter or equivalent and data recording.
- Experience with truck-mounted extraction systems, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience supervising small crews (up to 10 people) on residential, commercial, and industrial losses.
- Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per BELFOR policy.
- Sense of urgency, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
- English language literacy and fluency.
- Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting from 41 lbs and above, with assistance up to 50% of the time.
- Access and mobility in tight spaces.
- Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
- Ability to use mobile devices for data collection and timekeeping.
