Job Title:
Aviation Electrician
This role focuses on installing, terminating, and inspecting electrical connectors on aircraft systems while ensuring all work meets stringent aerospace and defense standards. You will interpret engineering drawings and wiring diagrams, perform specialized electrical tests, and troubleshoot connector-related issues in complex avionics environments. The position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of aircraft electrical installations.
Responsibilities- Install, terminate, and inspect electrical connectors on aircraft systems in accordance with aerospace and defense requirements.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics to plan and execute electrical work accurately.
- Perform continuity checks and insulation resistance testing to verify the integrity and reliability of electrical wiring and connectors.
- Torque connectors to specified values and document work in compliance with applicable standards and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and repair connector-related issues in avionics and electrical systems to restore full functionality.
- Ensure all electrical installations meet Boeing and Department of Defense (DoD) standards and applicable aerospace wiring specifications.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to support installation, modification, and repair activities.
- Support aircraft modification and depot‑level maintenance tasks involving electrical wiring and avionics connectors.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical staff to resolve complex electrical issues and implement approved solutions.
- For level 3 roles, provide guidance and mentoring to junior technicians and support team‑based troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and established work instructions throughout all tasks.
- Demonstrated electrical aptitude with hands‑on experience working on aircraft electrical systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Experience using hand and power tools for electrical installation, modification, and repair work.
- Ability to install, terminate, and inspect electrical wiring and connectors on aircraft and avionics systems.
- Skill in performing continuity checks and insulation resistance testing on electrical wiring and components.
- Experience with avionics installation, aviation electronics, and aircraft modification activities.
- Knowledge of MIL‑SPEC connectors and aerospace wiring standards.
- Strong mechanical aptitude to support routing, securing, and protecting wiring harnesses.
- Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions and technical procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to following safety protocols and quality standards.
- Level II:
At least 5 years of experience in avionics or electrical connector work. - Level III:
At least 8 years of experience in avionics or electrical systems with advanced connector expertise. - Demonstrated leadership in troubleshooting and mentoring junior technicians for level 3 roles.
- Experience working on military or commercial aircraft platforms.
- Ability to lead small teams and interface with engineering staff for level 3 roles.
- Active secret clearance, as required for access to the worksite and program.
Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience with Boeing aircraft or VC program work.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent certification related to cable and wire harness assemblies.
- Experience with aircraft modification or depot‑level maintenance activities.
- Experience in aviation, avionics, or aviation electronics environments.
- Experience working with electrical wiring harnesses and complex aircraft wiring configurations.
- Soldering experience in aviation or avionics applications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and technical teams in a hangar environment.
- Willingness to work voluntary overtime when needed to support program schedules.
