Technical Trades Crew Leader

The Technical Trades Crew Leader assists with the oversight of maintenance activities by coordinating staff, executing skilled repair work, maintaining accurate inventory controls, conducting facility inspections, and upholding safety and performance standards to ensure the efficient operation of residence hall facilities.

This position will be paid an additional monthly stipend of $500 for a current Master or Journeyman Electrical, Plumbing license or HVAC Class A or B license. The license must be issued by the State of Texas and maintained in a current status.

The responsibilities of the Technical Trades Crew Leader include:

  • Assisting the supervisor by providing daily staff assignments, relaying instructions, and supporting training and mentoring efforts.
  • Regularly completing work orders involving electrical, HVAC, plumbing, kitchen equipment repairs, painting, drywall, and carpentry.
  • Ensuring that inventory is properly checked out and that accurate inventory counts are maintained.
  • Assessing the condition of student rooms and maintaining a spreadsheet documenting the condition of each space.
  • Analyzing computer-generated work orders and prioritizing repairs for routine maintenance.
  • Responding to emergencies and providing leadership at job sites by directing skilled workers and helpers in resolving problems.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Promoting professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops.

Required qualifications include:

  • Diploma (High School) or GED.
  • At least 3 years experience in the trade related to the position.
  • Use of tools and equipment common to the particular trades.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • More than 3 years of experience in maintenance and repair in a crafts trade or in a facilities maintenance department.
  • 2 or more years of crew lead and/or senior level technician experience.
  • Maintains a current Journeyman license.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Experience working with work order systems.
  • Experience maintaining an inventory management system.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive, respond, and follow through with verbal and written work-related instructions.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary range is $65,000+ depending on qualifications.
