Maintenance Trade Assistant

Compensation Group: OPSEU – Operational and Maintenance

Salary Range: $30.90–$33.50 per hour

Period of Employment: March – January, Group 3 Seasonal Recurring

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week

Responsibilities
  • Embody SLPC equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
  • Provide semi‑skilled carpentry services, working with qualified skilled carpenters, other trades persons and helpers in the construction, restoration and maintenance of modern and historic buildings and structures.
  • Provide support to service contractors.
  • Winterize SLPC buildings and open buildings for the spring season.
  • Maintain shop equipment and ensure tools are in good working order.
  • Support special events as required.
  • Assist other St. Lawrence Parks Commission staff with various maintenance/repair work.
  • Operate agricultural tractors and attachments for the movement of equipment and materials.
  • Inspect buildings/assets for maintenance and other requirements and report to supervisor.
  • Research and procure related materials.
  • Maintain/monitor equipment including pumps, filters, alarms, ventilation and controls.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in the construction and maintenance of new and period structures.
  • Knowledge of the techniques, equipment and tools associated with construction maintenance work.
  • Knowledge and experience in historical building methods to ensure accurate representation of buildings and structures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of semi‑skilled tasks associated with carpentry and other trades.
  • Experience and knowledge in the safe and efficient use of manual and electrical hand tools.
  • Ability to understand simple plans, diagrams and blueprints and to carry out written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work on roofs and at various heights.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it pertains to the work being performed.
