Role Overview
Join a field team responsible for building and energizing traffic signal systems per engineered specifications. This position focuses on installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning of intersection control equipment—working aloft in bucket trucks and at grade in conduit systems—while meeting MUTCD, OSHA, and project standards.
Core Responsibilities- Review and apply intersection layouts, engineered schematics, and overhead signal plans.
- Install and connect signal heads, pedestrian push buttons, and vehicle/pedestrian detection devices to specification.
- Pull, route, and splice conductors in overhead and underground conduit; maintain proper color coding and terminations.
- Assemble and set signal poles, mast arms, and brackets using specified hardware, torque, and rigging techniques.
- Install and configure detection systems, controllers, cabinets, and battery backup systems for uninterrupted service.
- Operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts to position, orient, and adjust signals for visibility.
- Execute voltage, continuity, and signal testing with multimeters and other diagnostic instruments.
- Comply with MUTCD, OSHA, and company procedures for aerial work, electrical safety, and traffic control.
- Keep cabinet, junction box, and pole wiring orderly and well documented.
- Assist with staging, inventory control, and loading/unloading of poles, arms, and cabinets.
- Record installations, inspections, and adjustments in project logs or digital tools.
- Promptly report layout conflicts, material needs, and safety hazards to the Foreman or Leadman.
- Perform traffic control and flagging to safeguard crews, equipment, and the public.
- Complete other related tasks as assigned.
- 1–5 years’ experience in traffic signal installation, electrical work, or a similar construction trade.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, electrical schematics, and riser diagrams.
- Familiarity with MUTCD, OSHA, and TxDOT standards (preferred).
- Demonstrated safe use of bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and basic rigging.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
- Attention to detail and comfort working at heights.
- Strong safety mindset: PPE compliance, aerial safety, and electrical hazard prevention.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record for operating company vehicles.
- Outdoor work year-round in extreme heat, cold, rain, and harsh weather.
- Frequent standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling; physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. regularly; up to 100 lbs. with assistance when handling poles, mast arms, equipment, and materials.
