Summary

Big Sun Solar is seeking a detail-driven, licensed QA/QC Technician to inspect and verify the quality of commercial solar installations, including rooftop, canopy, and ground-mount/tracker systems across Texas. The ideal candidate has a solid electrical background, hands-on solar installation experience, and a strong command of 3-phase AC systems and 1500V DC systems. This role demands sharp attention to detail, in-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the ability to catch and document issues before systems are energized - protecting Big Sun Solar and its customers from costly callbacks.

• Perform QA/QC inspections on commercial solar installations - rooftop, canopy, and ground-mount/tracker systems - at each stage of construction, from installation through commissioning.
• Verify installed equipment, conductors, and terminations match approved plans, single-line diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
• Inspect 3-phase 120/208V and 277/480V AC systems and 1500V DC systems for NEC compliance.
• Interpret and cross-check blueprints, electrical schematics, and site plans against as-built field conditions.
• Conduct and document electrical testing - torque verification, continuity, insulation resistance, string voltage/current readings - during commissioning.
• Identify code violations, workmanship issues, or safety hazards, and issue clear, actionable punch-list items to the field crew.
• Capture thorough photo documentation and complete inspection records for every project using company QA/QC checklists and field software.
• Determine which issues the crew can resolve on-site versus what requires a return trip, engineering review, or design change.
• Ensure all electrical work aligns with NEC, OSHA, and local code/AHJ requirements.
• Travel to project sites throughout Texas as required, including day trips and overnight stays.
• Maintain thorough documentation of inspections, findings, and corrective actions for every project.

Required:

• Active Journeyman Electrician license (Texas TDLR) with experience in commercial electrical work.
• At least 3 years of commercial solar installation or electrical inspection experience.
• Comprehensive understanding of the NEC, electrical codes, and industry best practices.
• Demonstrated experience with 3-phase 120/208V and 277/480V AC systems and 1500V DC systems.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints and schematics.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills, including comfort using tablet/phone-based field software for inspections and photos.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively to job sites throughout Texas, including overnight travel as needed.

Preferred:

• Prior involvement in large-scale commercial solar PV projects, including rooftop, canopy, and tracker installations.
• Experience performing formal QA/QC, code-compliance, and third-party inspections.
