Internship Overview

Position:
Hotline Response & Service Coordinator Intern – part‑time unpaid internship supporting the 24/7 operability of the BCFS HHS – Common Thread – TX anti‑trafficking program. Intended for a student completing academic field hours toward a degree in a human services‑related field.

Responsibilities
  • Accept and respond to inbound hotline contacts during assigned shifts.
  • Assist with phone‑based trafficking screening and crisis assessment under supervision.
  • Support referral and intervention processes for qualifying cases.
  • Provide survivor‑centered communication during crisis situations.
  • Assist in identifying appropriate referral pathways.
  • Support coordination with community partners and resources.
  • Maintain awareness of regional referral networks.
  • Assist with follow‑up documentation.
  • Ensure all hotline contacts are documented accurately in program databases; assist with call logs, intake notes, and referral summaries.
  • Follow confidentiality and data protection protocols.
  • Assist with office operations including filing, data organization, and supply coordination; support service plan tracking and logistics tasks as assigned.
Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Public Health, Communications, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with vulnerable youth, survivors, or trauma‑impacted populations.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory capacity through academics or professional experience.
  • Pass all required background checks and screenings.
  • Participate in all program trainings.
  • Strong communication, emotional regulation, organization, and leadership potential.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity and empathy.
  • Ability to maintain composure during crisis situations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to accept direction from program staff.
  • Arrive on time for all assigned shifts.
  • Complete tasks within assigned timelines.
  • Commit to weekly supervision meetings.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.; ability to speak English.
