The Family Group Conference Specialist works under direct supervision of the Family Group Decision Making Supervisor and serves as the coordinator and/or facilitator of Family Group Decision Making, including Family Team Meetings and Initial Coordination Meetings in Region 05 Children Protective Investigations. The role involves coordinating referrals, orienting families, connecting with community resources, setting up conferences, facilitating meetings, and collaborating with family and stakeholder participants to determine an appropriate action plan.
The specialist tracks services provided through community resources and state agencies, ensures families participate in crafting family plans that address child safety, permanency, and well‑being, and prepares training and orientation materials. The position also provides conference site coordination, collects evaluative data, prepares statistical reports, manages budgets, and works with regional staff and stakeholders to create a process that encourages family strengths and achieves safety, permanency, and well‑being for involved children.

Serves as the primary communicator to the family regarding child safety concerns and CPS/CPI involvement, prepares and coordinates family participation, facilitates meetings to create an action plan using mediation and facilitation skills, ensures the plan addresses child safety, permanency, and well‑being, reports plan details to participants, collaborates with the Supervisor and other specialists to develop services that reduce family violence, assists in administrative reporting and data collection, evaluates community services, and performs other duties as assigned to maintain FGDM operations.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of CPI program policies, procedures, laws, and regulations; skills in leading teams, problem solving, time organization, establishing effective working relationships, effective verbal and written communication; ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, work evenings, weekends, and on-call as needed, and comply with agency leave policy.
Initial Screening CriteriaRequired:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university and five years of full‑time CPS/CPI field experience in consultative, supervisory, managerial, or technical work that includes analysis of complex written material, planning, organizing, and coordinating support services. Graduate degree may substitute for experience up to a maximum of two years. No performance level reminders allowed.
