Summary
Responsible for the overall wellbeing, care and supervision of adolescent mothers aged 12‑18, young adults 18‑21 years, and their children aged 0‑5. The Teen Parent Specialist works in a residential setting, applying trauma‑informed practices to provide a safe, caring environment. The specialist learns life‑skills and parenting curriculum and teaches it to clients in a home‑like environment. This role authorizes the specialist to take reasonable action necessary to carry out responsibilities, consistent with organizational policies, program guidelines, and sound professional judgment.
PositionResponsibilities
- Plan, lead, and implement parenting, educational, independent living, and recreational activities during shifts.
- Build positive relationships with program participants and foster connections with mothers and their children.
- Effectively manage the assigned group of children, maintaining and enforcing agency policies and procedures to protect youth rights and ensure appropriate discipline.
- Actively engage participants to foster positive, age‑appropriate development.
- Meet deadlines and complete documentation accurately in accordance with state licensing, contractor, and funder requirements.
- Conduct yourself professionally as a representative of Seton Home with participants, staff, children, school staff, and anyone who interacts with the role.
- Maintain positive, culturally competent relationships with residents and staff.
- Document client progress and interactions via the mandated online database(s).
- Follow reporting and notification protocols for serious incidents.
- Administer medication to residents and their children as needed.
- Provide input into the development of resident treatment and service plans, as appropriate to your supervisor.
- Learn and apply DFPS Client Youth Rights, Minimum Standards, contractor, and funder requirements.
- Assume responsibility for transportation when needed to airports, courts, activities, hospital emergencies, and other appointments, when a transporter is unavailable.
- Care for tender‑age children (0‑5) if the mother refuses to parent.
- Uphold agency policies regarding professional boundaries with clients.
- Apply de‑escalation and emergency behavior intervention techniques as trained.
- Gain working knowledge of agency policies.
- Possess maturity, confidence, and emotional stability.
- Complete all required professional development assignments promptly.
- Be sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the service population.
- Practice safety training and protocols daily, taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well‑being of self and others.
- Protect confidentiality of all information obtained in service with the organization, including client names, services rendered, donor information, investigation results, and financial information.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral standards.
- Take a solution‑oriented approach in interactions and be a team member who promotes collaboration and commitment to the mission and vision of the organization.
- Attend mandatory new employee orientation and mandatory training; failure to do so will result in termination.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Residential Shift Supervisor.
