Position Summary

The Counselor position provides short‑term, solution‑focused counseling services within a workplace support program to assist team members experiencing personal or work‑related challenges that may impact well‑being, attendance, job performance, or workplace functioning. This role delivers structured support within a defined session model and collaborates with internal partners to promote employee well‑being, resilience, and retention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct structured intake assessments to identify immediate concerns, strengths, and goal areas.
  • Provide short‑term, goal‑oriented counseling services using evidence‑based, solution‑focused approaches.
  • Assist team members in developing practical coping strategies through psychoeducation and brief skill‑building interventions to address stress, interpersonal conflict, work‑life balance concerns, and barriers impacting workplace or personal functioning.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and scope of practice consistent with licensure standards.
  • Identify when concerns exceed the scope of short‑term workplace counseling and facilitate referrals to external mental health providers as appropriate.
  • Provide crisis support within scope and follow established protocols for safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with management, HR, and internal support programs as appropriate and consistent with confidentiality, consent, and professional practice standards.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential documentation in accordance with organizational policy and licensure requirements.
  • Meet established program metrics related to engagement, service utilization, and goal attainment.
  • Uphold ethical standards and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and professional guidelines.
  • Provide appropriate referrals to community resources to address identified needs and facilitate linkage to services as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related behavioral health field required.
  • Current licensure in the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years providing counseling services with experience delivering brief, solution‑focused or short‑term service settings preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse and non‑traditional populations is required. Knowledge of and experience working with individuals facing complex barriers (e.g., substance use history, incarceration, domestic violence, trauma) strongly preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment skills with ability to determine scope and appropriate referral.
  • Excellent documentation skills are required, including consistent completion of timely, accurate, and thorough notes that meet organizational, ethical, and licensure standards.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and rapport, while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and trauma‑informed approaches when supporting diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, such as behavioral health services, federal/state/local assistance programs, housing and utility assistance, and disability benefits and ability to coordinate referrals.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is helpful and preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and the ability to maintain accurate documentation within electronic documentation systems.
  • Position requires frequent travel between various Goodwill locations. A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance coverage are required.
