The Adaptive Sports Program Coordinator assists the Association Director of Adaptive Programming with the development, planning, coordination, and delivery of community, adaptive and inclusive sports programs for individuals of all abilities. Programs may include adaptive sports, aquatics, outdoor recreation, and related activities designed to improve functional skills and support participants’ physical, social, mental, and emotional well-being.

This is a hands‑on, non‑exempt role that supports day‑to‑day program operations, coaching activities, outreach, volunteers, and administrative functions while ensuring alignment with YMCA mission, safety standards, and inclusion best practices.

This position will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid‑Time Off (pro‑rated), Holiday Pay, Full‑Time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Household Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Program Coordination & Delivery

  • Assist in planning, implementing, coaching, and evaluating adaptive and inclusive sports programs.
  • Support adaptive sports, aquatics, outdoor recreation, and special events designed for individuals of all abilities.
  • Assist with program schedules, seasonal planning, and daily operational needs.
  • Follow established operating procedures, safety standards, and YMCA risk management policies.

Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Assist with outreach and recruitment activities to promote adaptive sports participation.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, coaches, athletes, volunteers, families, and community partners.
  • Support special events, tournaments, and outreach engagements within the community.
  • Coordinate volunteers for practices, programs, events, and tournaments.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and scheduling of volunteers.
  • Supervise and support students completing internships within adaptive and inclusive sports programming.
  • Assist coaches and instructors during practices and programs as needed.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Assist with preparing periodic program budgets, tracking expenses, and supporting program outcomes and goal reporting.
  • Maintain accurate program records, participation data, and required documentation.
  • Support ordering, receiving, and tracking of program‑related supplies and invoices in a timely manner.

Equipment & Inventory Management

  • Conduct bi‑monthly inventory and organization of storage areas.
  • Assist with maintaining adaptive sports equipment inventory, condition, and quality standards.

Safety & Compliance

  • Support compliance with YMCA policies, background checks, certifications, and required trainings for staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Association Director of Adaptive Programming.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, Adaptive Physical Education, Kinesiology, Special Education, or a related field preferred.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in recreation management, adaptive programming, or a related field.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience supporting programs, special events, and volunteer coordination.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, based on program needs.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with a Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel locally as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent travel to branch locations and community partner sites required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and assist with physical activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Evening and weekend work required based on programming needs.
