Pay range: $14 USD to $17 USD. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
DescriptionThis position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Specialist will assist the Sports Program Director in overall program development, and orientation and training of staff. This person is generally on site every day of the programs and works before the program season beings after the close of the last week to wrap things up.

- Distribute uniforms, coaches packets, and rosters to coaches.
- Assist with staff and coaches meeting (packets, sign in sheets, etc).
- Assist Sports Director with administrative management – rosters, game schedules, and practice locations.
- Attend appropriate and required training classes offered by the YMCA of San Antonio.
- Assist the Director in distribution of marketing materials, sports campaigns on social media platforms, and other grass root marketing.
- Be a first line contact for player requests, roster changes, practice schedules, coach inquiries, etc.
- Update coaches and parents on status of requests.
- Promote the “YMCA Story” with all involved in the program.
- Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment.
- Accountable for the maintenance of sports equipment.
- Follow incident and accident reporting procedures and policies.
- Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

- Must be 21 years of age.
- Understand the basic principles of sports programs such as basketball, baseball, soccer, football, and volleyball.
- Demonstrate diplomatic interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to establish and maintain harmonious relationships by promoting caring, honesty, respect and responsibility with staff, YMCA members, and program participants.
- Ability to relate to children and parents.
- Must demonstrate courtesy and service to program participants and maintain a professional appearance.
- Follow YMCA policies and decisions in a supportive manner.
- Ability to intervene in conflict resolution.
- Serve as a Primary responder.
- A valid driver’s license is required as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.
- Certifications required within the first week of hire:
Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, and Hazardous Communications. - Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
- Work is performed in a fast-paced wellness floor/office environment and requires occasional work in off-site locations.
- Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary.
- Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
- Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
- Ability to sit for long periods at a time is also required.
- Ability to stand for at least 1 hour for presentations important.
- Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as, the ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, writing utensils is essential.
