Description

Job Summary:
Oversees all transportation activities including route delivery and account processing as well as dispatching. Schedules drivers and assigns routes to maximize productivity and ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company rules. The Transportation Manager has full authority over the entire regional driver team and works closely with the shipping manager on issues related to the metro team as well as the mechanical manager for issues related to fleet mechanics.
Must be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. The Transportation Manager will report directly to the Company Officers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the regional and metro driver team.
Assists the shipping manager in metro driver issues and safety concerns.
Leads others by engaging and motivating driving professionals to work in compliance with company and DOT standards.
Provides exceptional customer service to all internal and external customers of River City Produce.
Must be able to adapt and learn to navigate dispatching and ELD software, particularly Forward Thinking.
Acts as backup driver, as needed per business demands.
Interacts with vendors to provide fleet support and technical assistance to RCP drivers, mechanics and customers, where applicable.
Coordinates backhauls and other inbound freight to company dock.
Provides dispatch instructions to regional drivers.
Ensure all safety standards are met by the professional drivers in accordance with company policy and DOT regulations. Conduct safety meetings and communicate safety concerns to all professional drivers as they arise.
Perform road tests for all CDL drivers in accordance with DOT regulations.
Ensure all driver files are properly established and maintained in accordance with DOT regulations.
Ensure all pre-employment and random drug screens and physical examinations are performed for all drivers in accordance with DOT regulations. Works with HR Dept. in this area.
Act as point of contact for roadside repairs, questions and other issues (days, evenings and weekends). Be available "on call" as needed.
Act as liaison between transportation team and senior management for all transportation issues.
Works with HR Manager in accident prevention and reporting, driver training and employee relations.
Act as liaison between RCP and DOT - participate in DOT audits.
Perform other related tasks, as requested by senior management.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit up to 6-9 hours daily (total) with periodic sitting, bending, stooping and lifting as required by the duties of the job.
Must be able to stand up to 3-5 hours daily (total) on concrete, asphalt, gravel or dirt while as required by the duties of the job.
Must be available evenings, weekends and holidays, as required by business demands.
Work schedule will be depend on business levels. Specific schedule details are to be coordinated with other team members to ensure adequate departmental coverage every day of the week.
Must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, independently without assistance.

Must be able to read and write English in order to audit driver records and other company related documents.
Environmental conditions:
Must be able to work around noise and/or vibration generated by the truck and other equipment
Must be able to work around fumes, dust, gases and odors.
Must be able to work in cold warehouse environments (33°- 56°F) as required by the job.
Must be able to work in warm outdoor environment (up to 100°+
F) as required by the job.
Must be alert and able to identify a hazard, should one occur, in order to avoid it, by reporting immediately or, if directed, by taking corrective measures.
