Job Title:

Manager Trainee

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for learning the management of a small driver count and/or non‑traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best‑in‑class customer service. The role includes training to ensure compliance with DOT regulations, overseeing driver compliance, and working with internal and external contacts to accurately plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier set‑up, minimize turnover, and maximize ongoing productivity.
  • Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and support special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and profitability.
  • Utilize personnel management, training and orientation of drivers and employees, and provide assistance with internal and third‑party systems.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize fleet efficiency and profitability, produce and present customer‑specific reporting, and conduct financial analysis.
  • Manage inventory, assets, and driver allocation to balance equipment in the market.
  • Perform administrative duties such as payroll, Net‑Revenue budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, pay issue resolution, P&L analysis, invoicing, and creation of operational or financial reports.
  • Supervise yard operations including equipment inspection, part replacement, repair coordination, and scheduling of preventive maintenance.
  • Resolve service issues, routing and mechanical problems, and accessorial pay issues in collaboration with drivers, customers, and company personnel.
  • Maintain the company safety culture through daily driver safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance.
  • Assign loads, plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service while managing freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Or High School Diploma/GED with 1 year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience.
  • Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations as needed.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends.
  • Willingness to relocate regionally depending on account assignment.

Compensation

The starting pay range is influenced by skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifying factors. The position may also be eligible for annual bonuses and incentives based on profitability or volume, in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans.
