Description Vehicle Service Attendant
  • Services revenue vehicles, support vehicles and equipment; checks and services tires, fuel, oil, and coolant levels; cleans, dusts, washes interior and exterior; removes and replaces farebox vaults; reports vehicle defects and records servicing requirements and other preventative maintenance data; cleans service station facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains servicing records; assists Foreman in monitoring the vehicle servicing process and maintaining the security of the system.
Sign Worker
  • Digs post holes and installs route signage; climbs ladders to update route signage and trim trees.
  • Maintains landscape and operates gas–operated weed eaters and push/ride type lawn mowers.
  • Empties garbage cans and replaces garbage bags; paints route sign posts, shelters, and benches.
Steam Cleaner Operator
  • Steam cleans parts and vehicles with high‑pressure parts washer; cleans and maintains garage facilities, equipment and assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Tightens vehicle lug nuts during preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Empties garbage cans throughout the garage, service station, bus yard and VIA facilities; transports garbage to city refuge site; empties waste oil receptacles; crushes used oil filters with filter crushing machine; assists mechanics with heavy lifting and parts aligning.
  • Changes wheel/tire assemblies on revenue buses, revenue paratransit vehicles and support vehicles; washes wheel/tire assemblies; maintains records on tires; responds to tire road calls; cleans VIA's downtown bus stop facilities; cleans bus yard, empties garbage cans, picks up trash; cleans and details floors, windows, seats, interior, and exterior of revenue buses and revenue paratransit vehicles, cars and trucks.
  • Clean and mop revenue vehicles, support vehicles, and VIA facilities as required; cleans bus stop locations; cleans bus and paratransit service station; cleans equipment, bus ceilings, windows, floors, wheels and scrubs tailgates.
  • This non‑skilled hourly paid maintenance employee job description excludes marginal functions that are incidental to performing the job. Other duties may exist.
Education and Experience

Ability to read and write English effectively. Must have the training and experience which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills.

Additional Requirements
  • Must have the ability to acquire knowledge of job and occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the shops.
  • Must have the ability to safely operate and drive VIA revenue buses, revenue paratransit vehicles, cars, trucks, tugs, and forklifts.
  • Must have the ability to operate automatic and standard shift service vehicles.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Must have a Texas Commercial Drivers Learners' License (CDL) (Class‑B).
  • Must have a Texas Commercial Drivers License (CDL) (Class‑B) prior to completion of probationary period. Preference given to those already possessing a current CDL Class‑A or Class‑B license with Passenger Endorsement.
  • Must have the ability to maintain and prepare records.
  • Must have the ability to perform job assignments while wearing mandatory safety equipment such as respirators, safety glasses/goggles/face‑shields, gloves, and back protection belts.
  • Must have ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • In the event of a sign‑up, bump‑off or whenever job demands warrant it, Shop Attendants will be required to perform any of the duties within this job description.
  • Must be able to maintain good work attendance.
