Job Description
Under light supervision, gathers, compiles and analyzes transportation demographic, economic, land use and/or environmental data including traffic counters, flow data, etc. to create basic to moderate complexity modeling for existing and proposed transportation systems (roads; bridges; highways; tunnels; tolls; transit; rail; freight; aviation; bike/ped.; etc.). Reviews existing models and recommends improvements/changes as necessary. Leverages transportation systems, models, simulations and data to prepare basic to moderate complexity studies of existing or proposed transportation systems including: new systems;
upgrades or updates to existing systems; re‑routing of systems; reviews of existing systems; etc. Creates transportation surveys, exhibits, and other meeting materials as necessary, to identify areas of public concern and facilitate public and stakeholder input. Prepares and designs traffic count and safety studies. Reviews proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans. Reviews transportation plans for compliance/consistency with applicable local, state and federal laws.
Escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary. Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze or resolve complex transportation conceptual/schematic design issues. Performs other duties as required. Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff. Mentors more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community or Regional Planning or related discipline. 3 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills& Abilities
Solid knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by all transportation modes, and understanding of current transportation trends/issues. Solid knowledge of government regulations, and agency rules. Solid knowledge of the practical application of regional and community planning. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, models, and equipment to study and/or design of movement of people, goods and services. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
