Job SummaryThe primary responsibility is to drive a concrete mixer to work sites and discharge loads. This role operates in a variety of settings and conditions, including uneven ground, and may require unloading and attaching extension chutes weighing 30 to 50 pounds to the end of the primary chute. The Ready‑Mix Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the truck used for delivery of products connected to the company’s ready-mix concrete operation.
Job Responsibilities- Safely drive the truck to and from destinations, applying knowledge of DOT driving regulations and area roads.
- Check loads to ensure the product is hauled safely and adjusted to the desired level.
- Estimate slump of concrete.
- Distinguish between a proper mix and one that is too rocky or too sandy.
- Distinguish color differences between mixes.
- Verify directions with plant personnel before leaving the plant to ensure delivery to the correct customer and job site.
- Strive to meet customer expectations and achieve positive customer satisfaction survey results aligned with strategic objectives.
- Develop working relationships with customers to maximize opportunities for CEMEX and address customer needs.
- Keep equipment clean using approved cleaning materials and supplies.
- Maintain neat personal appearance and professional demeanor.
- Maintain radio contact with supervisor/dispatch to receive and transmit delivery instructions.
- Assist other company employees as needed.
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections on truck equipment and supplies (tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, water).
- May perform roadside repairs, such as installing light bulbs, etc.
- Maintain knowledge of city traffic routes.
- Take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.
- Cooperate and promote a team concept with all company employees and customers.
- Adhere to all CEMEX, DOT, and OSHA rules and regulations at all times.
- Meet or exceed company safety standards.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL A or
B). - Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Acceptable CSA score.
- MVR: no DUIs/DWIs in the last 5 years; no more than 3 moving violations in the previous 3 years.
- High school diploma preferred.
- Basic arithmetic: add, subtract two-digit numbers; perform the four basic operations.
- Continuous exposure to extreme heat and cold, loud noise, and outdoor work.
- Must wear protective equipment at the location.
- Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
- Heavy work: exert up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Regularly required to talk and hear to communicate and operate around heavy rolling equipment.
- Must be able to perform all job functions including pushing, turning, and pulling of controls.
- Must pass a DOT medical examination including back x-ray, hearing test, and drug/alcohol screen.
