Salary: $32,025.00 per year

REPORTS TO

Shift Supervisor, Operations Manager, and/or Facility Administrator

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job as required by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, to include a high school diploma or GED.

Licenses, Certificates, and Experience
  • Must be over twenty-one (21) years of age (for state certification requirements);
  • Current Texas Driver's License and must have current automobile insurance;
  • Ability to communicate effectively (reading, writing, and understanding) in English; bilingual is preferred;
Pre-Employment Background Checks
  • Able to submit to a drug urinalysis pre-screening exam and pass a criminal background check. If the candidate for employment does have a criminal record, it must be cleared through the requirements as set forth by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department;
  • Must be able to pass a background check with the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS)
TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Maintain Facility main entry electronic log utilizing the Guardian On Demand System: all significant events; including but not limited to resident status; assigned staff, facility entry and exiting; logging operational information pertaining to assigned staff and or visitors, interns, contract, or volunteers.
  • Maintain accountability of all residents and equipment and ensures that the environment is safe, clean, and secure.
  • Conduct hourly headcounts of our residents utilizing the Guardian On Demand System.
  • Answer all facility phone calls and remain professional and courteous at all times.
  • Controlling the security of the facility. Keeping all magnetic and locked doors secured at all times and only opening them when recognized Staff or Chain of Command personnel request access. All others must be escorted.
  • Be familiar with the facility program schedule to coordinate resident movements or needs.
  • Be familiar with support and service agencies to facilitate coordination, e.g. Tropical Texas; medical services; fire safety services; local law enforcement agencies, etc...
  • Monitor security and fire alarm systems, including closed circuit monitors.
  • Maintain communication with other staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Check the schedule for changes and advise staff of pertinent information.
  • Maintain handwritten logs, such as visitation, residents released and detained, transports, equipment issued, grievances, medical isolation, resident observation logs, etc...
  • Adhere, maintain, and comply with professional conduct and ethical behavior consistent with the standards and policies and procedures expected by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), TJJD, Cameron County, and Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department (CCJJD) at all times, both on duty and off duty.
  • Adhere and comply with all PREA standards and follow zero tolerance towards all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment.
  • Adhere and comply with all TJJD standards to include Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) standards and cooperate with all ANE investigations.
  • Adhere and comply with all CCJJD's and Cameron County's policies and procedures
  • Adhere to CCJJD's Personnel Manual
  • Abide by all federal, state, and local laws; the nature of our profession requires being a good role model and setting a good example at all times.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Employment is contingent upon federal, state, local and/or grants availability.
  • CCJJD is an At-Will employer; the department has the right to terminate your employment for any legal reason, or no reason, at any time either with or without notice.
  • Follow assigned monthly schedule unless proper arrangements have been made through a Shift Supervisor or Detention Administrator.
  • Perform duties specific to shift as determined by the Facility Administrator, Operations Manager; and other duties as assigned.
