Job Title

To perform complex accounting clerical duties involving the preparation and maintenance of various reports, ledgers and records related to revolving cash funds, position control, accounts payable and purchase orders. Receives general supervision from higher level accounting staff. Exercises no supervision.

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Audits and maintains files and records and produces tabulated information pertaining to personnel, budget account transfer, encumbrances, abatements, warrants, invoices, purchases, supplies, vouchers and related functions.
  • Prepares periodic reports on salary; maintains time records and various financial records requiring the use of judgment.
  • Posts checks to ledger accounts; balances financial statements for various funds.
  • Reconciles County and District records, researching discrepancies and processing change documents.
  • Gathers, assembles, tabulates, checks and files financial data. Maintains financial records and processes documents involved in financial transactions.
  • Collects monies owed the District resulting from damage or loss of property; represents the District in obtaining judgments as necessary.
  • Operates various accounting machines such as desk computers, tabulators, and/or data processing video terminal display equipment in entering and producing information pertaining to area of assignment.
  • Maintain records on special requisitions, journal voucher transfers, workmen's compensation, conference expense accounts, categorical programs, vendors, insurable values, damage reports and other related functions.
  • Provides information and assistance to a variety of District staff; coordinates with other departments and outside agencies and vendors as necessary. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

One year fulltime paid experience compiling and keeping financial records in a public agency. AND High school graduation or the equivalent supplemented by additional specialized training or college level course work in accounting, bookkeeping or a closely related field.

(Substitution:
Fulltime paid private sector experience in the preparation and maintenance of financial records may be substituted for public agency experience at the rate of two months of private sector experience for one month of public agency experience.)

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION:
This is a non-exempt position, Regular Classified Salary Range 35. Most positions in this class work 8hours/12months. The probationary period for employees in this classification is six (6) months (or 130 working days of paid service).

THE EXAMINATION:

  • Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.
  • Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.
  • Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.
  • This eligibility list will be active for a period of (1) year.
