Access Services - Circulation student employees are responsible for a variety of duties including, but not limited to, maintaining organization of the physical collection, helping library patrons in using the facilities and resources, assisting patrons in accessing physical and digital materials, and directing patrons to appropriate staff and librarians. Special responsibilities and training may be assigned as needed.
ResponsibilitiesUnder direct supervision, the Library Assistant will perform a variety of customer service and library support duties, including but not limited to the following:
Service Desk Responsibilities- Check library materials in and out, including books, reserve items, and equipment
- Assist patrons with locating materials using the online catalog and course reserves
- Provide basic informational, directional, and library policy assistance
- Support patrons in the use of library equipment, including printers and scanners
- Answer and direct phone calls
- Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned
- Record and maintain usage statistics
- Enforce library policies in a professional and courteous manner
- Retrieve, sort, and process library materials
- Shelve and shelf-read materials across all library collections
- Maintain orderly shelving, including shifting materials in tight areas
- Conduct searches for missing materials
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the library
- Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions
- Assist with preparation and support of outreach events and library initiatives
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Qualification:
Admission or registration as a CSU student. - As a Bridge Student Assistant, the student need not be registered as a student, but must have been enrolled as a CSU student the previous term and is registered for the following term.
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement:

- Willingness to participate in continuous training
- Physical ability to stand, bend and lift books.
- Ability to move loaded book carts.
- Adhere to confidentiality and privacy of patron records
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.90 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position InformationWork status:
Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours:
Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours:
Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
