JOB SUMMARY
To work closely with the classroom teacher and other certificated staff in completion of assignments, including the supervision of children, and tasks that may be performed by non-credentialed staff. Bilingual positions in this classification require fluency in a second language.
SUPERVISIONPositions in this classification are supervised by the Principal. Certificated staff as designated provides direction. This classification exercises no supervision.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists teachers by providing direct instruction to small groups or individual students.
- Assists students in improving mathematical, reading and language skills to proficiency.
- Assists the teacher in assessing student academic growth including assisting with grading and correcting student work.
- Works closely with certificated staff in maintaining a safe learning environment and communicates student concerns with the classroom teacher.
- Supervises and works with students under the supervision of certificated staff.
- Performs clerical duties involved with classroom activities, such as cutting stencils, compiling instructional materials, operating office equipment to create classroom copies, laminating student work, and issuing, collecting and maintaining classroom supplies.
- Operates audio-visual equipment.
- Uses basic computer skills to assist students with keyboarding skills to write or conduct research using the internet.
- Assists children with basic personal care.
- Attends workshops, seminars, conferences, meetings, and committees as required.
- Performs job related duties as assigned.
Experience and education requirements: High school graduation or the equivalent. AND Completion of at least 48 semester units (or 72 quarter units) at the college level, OR Possession of an Associate's or higher level degree, OR Pass assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION: This is a non-exempt position, Regular Classified Salary Range 30A. Most positions in this class work 6-8 hours/9 months. The probationary period for employees in this classification is six (6) months (or 130 working days of paid service).

Pass/Fail. This requirement can be met by one of the following:
Completion of at least 48 semester units or 72 quarter units at the college level, OR Possession of an Associate’s or higher-level degree, OR pass the Assessment Examination.Only qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process.
Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit.
Candidates will be notified in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules.
This eligibility list will be active for a period of one year.
