The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Applied Technology, Transportation, & Culinary Arts Division seeks an innovative faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a full-time tenure track position.

Representative Duties:

SBVC is seeking an innovative individual to join a dynamic team of Welding Technology faculty and staff who are focused on increasing student access and success in welding qualifications and successful employment. The SBVC Welding Technology Program is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required for immediate employment, provide training for qualification to the AWS standards as well as training in fabrication and welding inspection.

This full-time, tenure track assignment under the general supervision of the Dean of Applied Technology, Transportation and Culinary Arts Division is responsible for a full range of professional duties.

The following duties are typical of those performed by faculty in this classification. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.

* Maintain a full teaching load within the Welding Technology Program with a focus on preparing students to become certified welders.

* Develop and teach assigned courses in the Welding Technology program using different teaching methodologies related to the full range of classes from basics to certification. Topics for classes include but are not limited to:
Oxy-Fuel gas welding and cutting, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW-G, FCAW-S, GMAW, PAC, CAC-A, layout and fabrication, blueprint reading, welding qualification/certification, and welding inspection consistent with the Division and SBVC's curriculum standards.

* Develop and enhance curriculum and programs to align with the skills and competencies the students need to meet employers' job requirements.

* Participate in activities related to Program Review, curriculum/program design and development.

* Participate in professional and co-curricular activities (committees, student activities, shared governance, etc.)

* Maintain office hours to assist and guide students to successfully complete their educational goals.

* Attend Division, department, program advisory committee, grant-related and other meetings related to the Welding Technology program.

* Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submit them according to published guidelines; prepare and grade class assignments and evaluations according to course syllabus.

* Engage in professional development activities.

* Demonstrate creativity and innovation in meeting the learning needs of our students. Maintain technical and professional competence in the field. Maintain a clean, well-organized welding shop.

* Build and maintain strong partnerships with industry organizations and employers.

* Participate in the development and implementation of a long-term growth strategy for the Welding Technology program.

* Assist in promoting the program to recruit students through participation in job fairs, recruiting and other related events.

* Serve on at least one standing campus committee.

* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of full-time professional experience

OR

* An Associate's degree AND six (6) years of full-time professional experience

AND

* Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.

OR the equivalent

Minimum Qualifications:

* Possession of a current AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) License.

* Hold at least one current AWS, API 1104, or an ASME Section IX qualification, or current certification from LA City, AWS, Iron Workers, etc.

* Advanced Skill, equivalent to a certified welder, in the following areas: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and FCAW.

* Proven experience teaching welding technology and/or metal fabrication.

* Proficiency in oxy-fuel cutting, manual & CNC plasma arc cutting and air carbon arc cutting.

The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

* Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
