The Preschool Services Department (PSD) is recruiting for Home Base Child & Family Support Workers
- Contract to work with infants, toddlers, and their families to provide early learning experiences and supportive services in order to contribute to the attainment of child/family goals. Incumbents will provide home base services/educational activities to children and their families within the community that promote school readiness by supporting early language and literacy development, social-emotional growth, early cognitive and motor skills, and positive approaches to learning.

Services are designed to strengthen family engagement, build developmentally appropriate routines, and foster foundational skills necessary for a successful transition into kindergarten. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur throughout San Bernardino County.

Training will be provided by the Preschool Services Department to hired candidates prior to the first meeting with children and families. Excellent benefits are available. To review job-specific benefits, refer to:

Conditions of employment include: a valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Must pass a pre-employment physical including a tuberculosis test and required immunizations (SB792). Must be able to lift and carry a small child (up to 50 lbs.)

Other physical demands include: sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting, grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, reaching, stooping, using smell and touch, working outside and vision and hearing. This is a contract position and continued employment is based on funding availability. San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Job offers are contingent upon passing a background investigation which includes a fingerprint check and search of the Child Abuse Index before appointment.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Education
    - Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience
    - Must possess six (6) months full-time equivalent experience working in an educational or human/social services setting, preferably with children and families.
  • Substitution
    - Six (6) semester or (9) quarter units of completed college coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE), Child Development (CD), Behavioral/Social Science, or closely related field may be considered in lieu of experience. Transcripts MUST be attached.
  • Required documentation (Must be attached):
    Copy of transcripts with qualifying coursework (with substitution-unofficial are accepted and must be legible).

Important notes:
Education
- Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
