- Journalism Part-time Lecturer Pool
This Part-Time Lecturer will teach courses in journalism, such as Newswriting and Reporting, Multimedia Journalism, Media and Journalism Ethics, and Practicum in Multimedia Journalism:
Coyote Chronicle, among others.
Most undergraduate courses in the Department of Communication and Media are 3-unit courses. In-person courses are taught twice per week on campus (either at our San Bernardino campus or our Palm Desert Campus) for seventy-five minutes per class session during the Fall and Spring semesters (15 weeks each). Some courses may also be taught in online or hybrid modalities.
Instructors prepare their syllabi, assignments, classroom activities, lecture materials, and grading rubrics, and teach courses in accordance with department guidelines. Instructors also hold limited office hours to meet with students who need assistance, have questions, or seek guidance regarding coursework.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication Studies, or a suitably related discipline OR Bachelor's degree in Journalism or a suitably related discipline AND at least five years of work experience at reputable, publicly recognized news outlets.
- Degree in hand by time of appointment.
- Relevant professional experience in journalism, media, communication, or related fields. Candidates must submit a résumé or curriculum vitae and writing samples, a portfolio, or a dossier.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Communication or a suitably related discipline.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the higher education level.
- Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
Special Conditions
The person holding this position is considered a'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.

We offer a B.A. in Journalism, B.A. in Leadership Communication, B.A. in Communication, with concentrations in Relational & Organizational Communication, Media Studies, and Strategic Communication. We also have a Specialized Concentration where students can work with faculty advisers to create an individualized curriculum of courses.
We also offer the M.A. in Communication Studies for students returning to college to develop their career and enhance their research. Students can specialize in a field of study of their choice, and teach as a Graduate Teaching Associate.
