Position Overview
San Bernardino County Land Use Services is recruiting for an Engineering Geologist to perform a range of mining and geology-related work, including inspections, investigations, and evaluations of geologic conditions, as well as reviewing technical reports. The role provides professional recommendations related to mining operations, reclamation, erosion and sediment control, slope stability, geologic hazards, and geotechnical reports, and may include lead direction or supervision of support staff.
KeyDuties
- Review geologic, geotechnical, and mining reports for land development and construction projects.
- Inspect operating and idle mines to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate slope stability, erosion and sediment control, grading, drainage, and seismic hazards.
- Conduct field investigations and provide recommendations to mitigate geologic risks.
- Consult with engineers, developers, and other agencies on geologic and mining-related issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Civil Engineering.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering, including analyzing geologic and geotechnical conditions and providing recommendations for planning, design, and construction of engineered structures.
- Current, valid California license as a Geologist or Engineer issued by the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (preferred).
- Experience evaluating compliance with the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act of 1975 and other environmental regulations, or reviewing land use projects for geologic and geotechnical considerations.

Physical:
The position requires site visits with extensive walking over uneven terrain and exposure to various weather conditions.
