Job Overview
Department of Public Works (DPW) is recruiting a Supervising Public Works Project Manager to manage public works programs and projects, including civil engineering design, construction, and operations. The role may oversee in-house or contractor groups and supervise staff engaged in civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities- Manage complex civil engineering projects in flood control, solid waste, transportation, land development, construction, and surveying.
- Develop and manage contracts, conduct inspections, and prepare project maps.
- Develop engineering studies and support related engineering functions.
- Assign and evaluate work, assist in budget preparation, and recommend expenditures.
- Represent the department at meetings.

Conditions of EmploymentBackground check required. Travel required across the County. Valid California Class C driver’s license with liability insurance sical demands include frequent sitting, occasional walking, bending, lifting ≤10 lbs, exposure to dust, gases, and extremes of temperature, as well as use of protective equipment.
QualificationsOption 1
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business/Public Administration, or related field. - Experience:
5 years of engineering project management involving design, procurement, and construction of public works projects. - Substitutions (choose one):
- Master’s degree + 2 years experience.
- Project or Program Management Professional certification + 1 year experience.
- PE or PLS license + 4 years experience.
Option 2
- Experience:
8 years of progressively responsible project management involving design, procurement, and construction of public works projects. - Substitutions (choose up to two):
- 30 semester units of upper‑division education + 1 year experience.
- Project or Program Management Professional certification + 1 year experience.
- EIT or LSIT + 1 year experience OR PE or PLS license + 4 years experience.
Applicants must provide a list of completed coursework unless they possess a qualifying bachelor’s degree. Foreign degrees require evaluation report.
