Overview
San Bernardino County is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Planner-Land Use Services* to join our planning team. This advanced-level position plays a key role in urban and rural planning projects, including the development of community plans and the County-wide General Plan. The Senior Planner performs the most complex planning assignments and serves as a project leader on major initiatives. This position works closely with internal teams, external agencies, and the public, and may represent the department before the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission.
Key Responsibilities- Lead or participate in the development and analysis for planning and environmental projects.
- Organize and conduct public meetings and presentations, including those on controversial or high-profile projects.
- Serve as project lead, assigning and reviewing work, and guiding team members throughout project execution.
- Research and review technical reports, maps, and plans; compile and document data for planning initiatives.
- Respond to inquiries from the public, effectively communicating complex regulations and policies to support resolutions of land use or planning issues.

Planning for the County Wide VisionThe San Bernardino County Land Use Services Department is recruiting for experienced Planners to perform a wide range of highly responsible duties in urban, rural, and regional land use applications and studies. Duties include the Current Planning processing of development applications for entitlement; review of environmental documents; research and review of technical reports, maps and plans; and may include Advance Planning work related to the General Plan, development code, or special projects.
Planners III perform the most complex planning work, serve as project leaders and mentors, and coordinate contacts with outside agencies, public groups, the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission.

The Planning Division includes Current Planning and Advance Planning and is committed to implementing the Countywide Vision for our communities. The County recently adopted a General Plan Update, and the Planning Division will be responsible for implementing the Countywide Plan, Community Action Guides, and a Renewable Energy and Conservation Element, Green House Gas Reduction Plan and Housing Element, among other initiatives.
