The Innovation and Technology Department is accepting applications for Radio Communications System Analysts for the Public Safety Communications Division. Radio Communications System Analysts coordinate, design, and maintain the County's emergency radio system, equipment, and associated circuits for the transmission, reception, and display of voice, data, and other information on wireless communication systems for designated County departments and outside agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Performing complex analytical and technical work on land mobile radio subscriber equipment, trunked radio systems, circuit transport systems, and dispatch console electronics and systems
  • Engineering and designing conventional and trunked radio and related high and low capacity interconnect systems, towers, sites, and antenna systems
  • Installing, configuring and maintaining radio communications systems and components including repeater stations, voting and controller systems, and dispatching console equipment as well as subscriber units
  • Troubleshooting system failures, performance deficiencies, and circuit/wiring issues

The Public Safety Communications Division provides design, operation, maintenance, and administration of one of the largest County-operated telecommunications networks in the country. The network includes the County's Regional Public Safety Radio System, which integrates all countywide law enforcement, fire, and EMS radio dispatch capabilities. Incorporated in the network are voice, radio, paging, and mobile data service elements.

Key Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience administering and maintaining land mobile radio equipment, trunked radio systems, IP network transport systems, and dispatch electronic equipment
  • Experience operating and maintaining Motorola Astro Digital and Analog Radio Systems
  • Experience optimizing and servicing simulcast radio systems
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing dispatch console systems
  • Experience configuring and optimizing radio systems and evaluating coverage performance
  • Experience with legacy VHF and UHF repeater systems
  • Experience with configuration and troubleshooting of Juniper router systems
  • Possession of an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License, ETA International CETa or GCT1/2
Required Education

Thirty (30) semester (45 quarter) units of completed technical coursework or training in electronics, communication technology, or a related field.

Substitution:
One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may substitute the education requirement.

Conditions of Employment
  • Pre‑Employment Process: candidates must undergo a background check, including fingerprinting and medical exam
  • Availability: willing to work different shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays; support a 24/7 operation; may be assigned to various County locations without advance notice
  • Travel: a valid California Class C driver license is required; mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained
  • Physical Requirements:

    duties may involve lifting up to 50 pounds; bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Sponsorship: candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States; those requiring visa sponsorship are not considered
