San Bernardino County – Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician III position. The incumbent will serve as a technical expert for the GIS team, utilizing the Esri GIS platform to create and maintain maps, data, and geospatial information products.
Responsibilities- Serve as a project lead, monitoring project progress, deadlines, and quality assurance.
- Resolve operational problems and provide technical direction to GIS Technicians I and II.
- Create and maintain a wide variety of geospatial products using Arc Map, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online.
- Lead and mentor a team of GIS technicians.
- Support GIS projects for public agencies.
- OPTION 1: Three (3) years of experience compiling and preparing a broad spectrum of geospatial data and visualization products, including at least two (2) years using Esri desktop products (Arc Map or ArcGIS Pro) and ArcGIS Online. (Experience may be concurrent.)
- OPTION 2: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program with at least thirty (30) semester units (45 quarter units) of coursework in GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, surveying, or information technology.
- OPTION 3: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program and completion of a GIS certificate program from an accredited institution; two (2) years of professional experience using Esri desktop products and ArcGIS Online.
- Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job‑related physical exam, including a drug test.
- Travel throughout the County may be required; a valid California Class C driver’s license and automobile insurance must be produced at the time of hire and maintained.
