Geographic Information Systems Technician III

The Job

San Bernardino County - Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician III who will serve as a technical expert for the GIS team, utilizing the Esri GIS platform to create and maintain a wide variety of maps, data, and geospatial information products. The incumbent will act as a project lead, monitoring project progress, deadlines, and quality assurance;

resolving operational problems; and providing technical direction to GIS Technicians I and GIS Technician IIs.

Pre-Employment Process:
Applicants must successfully pass a background check, a job-related physical exam including a drug test, prior to employment.

Travel:
Travel throughout the County may be required. A valid California Class C driver's license and automobile insurance must be produced at the time of hire and maintained.

Applicants must qualify under ONE (1) of the following options:

• Option 1:
  Three years of experience compiling and preparing a broad spectrum of geospatial data and data visualization products, which includes at least two years of professional experience utilizing Esri’s desktop (Arc Map or ArcGIS Pro) products and ArcGIS Online. Experience may be concurrent.
• Option 2: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited program with at least thirty semester units of college coursework in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography, cartography, drafting, surveying, or information technology.
• Option 3: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and completion of a GIS certificate program from an accredited institution AND two years of professional experience utilizing Esri desktop products and ArcGIS Online.

Courses and/or certificate(s) MUST be listed in the Supplemental Questionnaire of the application for consideration.

i.e. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology with 30 semester units of GIS coursework OR Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and GIS certificate from accredited program.

• Strong professional experience utilizing Esri’s GIS platform, especially desktop applications such as Arc Map and/or ArcGIS Pro and proficiency with ArcGIS Online.
• Successful history of leading a group of technicians and seeing projects through to completion.
• Professional experience working for a public agency or supporting GIS projects for public agencies.
