San Bernardino Community College District accepts applications for an hourly professional expert position for our San Bernardino Valley College on a continuous basis. Job Description:

This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants. SAS may not be actively recruiting. Applications submitted will remain active for up to one (1) year.  Once you have submitted the application, contact the SAS Interpreting Services Specialist atSBVCDHH.

SAS ASL Interpreters receive technical and functional direction from the SAS Interpreting Services Specialist. SAS ASL Interpreters will provide interpreting services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals.

Minimum Requirements:

Interpreting/Transliterating Level 0

This is a mentoring level.

Required:

High School Diploma and completion of an ASL Ethics Course. Preferred:
Completion of an Interpreter Training Program.

Interpreting/Transliterating Level I

Level One requires a minimum of 0-2 yrs of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.

Interpreting/Transliterating Level II

Level Two requires a minimum of 2-4 yrs of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.

Interpreting/Transliterating Level III

Level Three requires a minimum of 4-5 years of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.

Interpreting/Transliterating Level IV

Level Four requires a minimum of 5-6 years of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation. Completion of an Interpreter Training Program is preferred.

Interpreting/Transliterating Level V

Level Five requires a minimum of a RID Certification, or completion of RID written test and an ASL Interpreting evaluation, or EIPA Level 4/5 and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.

Exceptions to minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the hiring department/authority.

Environment:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to perform moderately strenuous manual labor; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 50 pounds; to frequently lift, carry, push, and/or pull heavier amounts of weight with or without assistance; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate specialized hand and power tools and equipment;

operate assigned equipment; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision:

See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

Hearing:

Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
