Job Summary
CALTRANS Dispatcher Clerk (JC-509098) – District 08 – 602 / 4275. 24/7 dispatch center/traffic management center. Permanent, full-time. San Bernardino County, 13892 Victoria St., Fontana, CA. Eligibility via Cal Trans Dispatcher Clerk exam.
Key Responsibilities- Operate communication equipment to receive and disseminate routine or emergency messages, broadcasts, and bulletins.
- Maintain logs in Integrated Management Maintenance System (IMMS) and records in accordance with Transportation Communication Guidelines.
- Use IMMS, Lane Closure System (LCS), Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, CHP Media Information Bulletin Board (MIS), telephone, fax, and two-way radio to communicate with CHP, CHP Media, and other agencies.
- Answer calls, extract information, evaluate nature of calls, prioritize them, and respond professionally.
- Independently interpret radio, telephone, and computer messages for routine, hazardous or unusual situations and provide appropriate recommendations or actions per Maintenance Reportable Incident Schematic.
- Work irregular hours, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and some overtime.
- May be required to report to other district locations as needed.
- Typing certificate for 40 words per minute (net) required.
- Valid driver’s license required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
- Successful background investigation per California Highway Patrol (CHP) and annual signing of CHP Form 101A.
- Minimum qualifications verified prior to interview; educational credentials verified via unofficial, original, or sealed transcripts.
- Type 40 WPM net.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
