CNC Laser Operator

Job Description

Position Summary

The Laser Operator operates and maintains the laser cutter to produce metal parts for the shop. This role includes preparing supplied files for cutting, handling material, troubleshooting machine issues, and organizing completed parts.

Key Responsibilities

Laser Setup and Operation

• Prepare supplied files for cutting using the machine software.

• Set up and operate the laser cutter for assigned work.

• Monitor cut quality and make machine adjustments as needed.

• Follow shop safety practices when operating equipment and handling material.

Material Handling and Part Organization

• Use a forklift to stage, load, and unload material.

• Sort and organize completed parts for the shop to collect.

• Perform deburring and basic part cleanup when needed.

• Keep material, usable remnants, and scrap organized.

Troubleshooting and Equipment Care

• Troubleshoot routine cutting and machine problems.

• Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and consumable replacement.

• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Changing Priorities and Shop Support

• Respond to changing production priorities while keeping interrupted work organized.

• Communicate work status, delays, and problems that need attention.

• Assist with other shop tasks as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Reliability, consistent attendance, and follow-through.

• Basic mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving ability.

• Basic math and measuring skills.

• Basic computer skills and the ability to follow instructions.

• Willingness to learn new equipment and processes.

• Clear communication and the ability to work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

Training is available. Previous laser cutting experience is helpful but is not required.

• Experience with CNC machines or other shop equipment.

• Experience in fabrication or manufacturing.

• Forklift operation and material-handling experience.
