DSH-Patton, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment for the Supervising Registered Nurse (Safety) Risk Management Coordinator position in Central Nursing Services (CNS). This position exists under the direct supervision of the Assistant Coordinator of Nursing Services. Expected work hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule and hours are subject to change based on operational needs.
This position is subject to budget approval.
The Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) Risk Management Coordinator is responsible for the management and clinical supervision of the Health Services Specialist (HSS) staff and for their nursing care and care practices; plans, implements, and evaluates current and new nursing policies; responsible for the ongoing monitoring, assessing and makes recommendations for the maintenance of quality nursing services delivered to the individuals we serve;
instructs, plans, directs, supervises and evaluates nursing personnel; assists with identification and resolution of risk management issues associated with nursing services. The SRN serves as an extension of the Nursing Administrator (Coordinator of Nursing Services) authority as assigned. The SRN must have knowledge of the theories, practices, ethics, and values of the nursing profession, requirements of regulatory agencies, the hospital Administrative Directives, Policies and Procedures, the policies regarding staff supervision, grievances, complaint handling according to the Department of Mental Health, Recovery principles, and implementation of Treatment Plan.
Experience
Experience:
One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a nursing classification comparable in level of responsibility to a Registered Nurse, Range
B. or Two years of professional nursing experience in a facility licensed for inpatient care. Possession of a master’s degree in nursing may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, and techniques, particularly those related to physical care and administration of medication and narcotics
- Knowledge of policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of a State Hospital, and experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures as well as quality improvement and compliance efforts and activities
- Knowledge of principles and practice used in training nursing services staff
- Experience in managing operational emergencies at a medical/psychiatric facility including communication processes with a Central Staffing Office and patients
- Experience in observing and evaluating the quality of nursing care, making nursing recommendations and developing plans of care
- Experience of handling issues related to labor relations, ie., contracts grievances, and complaint handling
