Base Pay Range: $10,484.00 – $12,497.00 per month

This range is provided by California Department of State Hospitals. Actual pay will be based on skills and experience.

Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) limited-term, full-time Health Services Specialist (HSS) within the Central Nursing Services (CNS) Department. This position will be under the administrative and clinical direction of the Nurse Administrator and the CNS Department Supervising Registered Nurses. This position is limited term up to 12 months, may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

The Health Services Specialist is responsible for the ongoing monitoring, assessment, and evaluation of nursing care being provided; ensures timely and appropriate nursing interventions for patient care; provides ongoing guidance, direction, and in-service training for nursing personnel to ensure Standards of Practice are being maintained; evaluates nursing staff's professional proficiency; serves as a liaison between the Nursing Services Department, Program Management, and nursing services staff in a collegiate manner to resolve issues of concern;

provides clinical recommendations for maintaining quality nursing care for the physical and psychosocial needs of patients; provides nursing care and leadership during medical and psychiatric emergencies and when clinically needed; participates on committees, work groups, and corrective action teams; may assist in providing direct care of patients as needed. The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital.

The candidate must be regarded as dependable by his/her supervisor and viewed as having the ability to guide and direct staff as needed in helping to insure Standards of Practice, nursing policies, procedures and practices including the Administrative Directives, are followed and maintained; have a fundamental knowledge of the patient medical record, nursing documentation, and nursing care plan requirements; regarded as having the ability to work with members of the treatment team in a collegiate manner, and have at least 1 year experience in an acute medical hospital.
