Hazardous Materials Technician - PSE

The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, Household Hazardous Waste Section,is accepting applications for the position of Hazardous Materials Technician - PSE. These positions are responsible for handling hazardous waste to collect, sort, and transport in a safe manner, following established guidelines and codes.
Hazardous Materials Technicians will workweekendsand will work outdoors in all weather - rain, sun, heat, wind, etc.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department Household Hazardous Waste Section is committed to providing safe and efficient hazardous waste management services. The ultimate objective is to protect health, natural resources, and the environment. Staff is devoted to the provision of fast and friendly service to County residents and small businesses.

PSE = Public Service Employee: PSE is an extra-help unclassified appointment.

These are extra-help, non-regular positions classified as Public Service Employees.

All new employees must adhere to the provisions of the County Fire and Special Districts Dress Code, which prohibits all visible tattoos. Applicant must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.

• Must have a valid California Class C Driver license.
• Must successfully complete the 24-hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour DOT training classes within six (6) months from the date of hire. Must successfully complete other program related training, such as program vehicles operation, within six (6) months from the date of hire.
• Must be able to work on Saturdays. Work schedule will vary.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted; duties require constant bending, lifting, and standing for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work outdoors on a continuous basis, in extreme weather, including sun, rain, wind, high heat, humidity, etc.
• A successful background check is required prior to assignment.

EDUCATION:

Eighteen (18) years of age AND High School Diploma or GED.

These are PSE/Extra Help/Temporary Positions!

Successful candidates shall be considered at-will throughout the term of their employment and will not attain regular status. These temporary positions will be employed for approximately 6-12 months and will average approximately 25 hours per week.
