San Bernardino County is recruiting for Plumbers who install, maintain, inspect, and repair plumbing equipment/components that carry water, gas, sewage, fuel, oxygen, and other systems located in and around hospital, commercial, and industrial buildings; perform miscellaneous pipe and drainage work; and utilise various plumbing trade tools. Additional duties include planning and laying out alterations and new plumbing systems; reading and interpreting building plans, blueprints, sketches, and piping diagrams;

estimating labor and material costs for plumbing jobs; and maintaining accurate records of time for labor, materials, equipment, and work status.

The resulting list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur throughout the County in the departments of Project & Facilities Management, Sheriff's, and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The current vacancy exists with Project & Facilities Management Department.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre‑Employment Process: Applicants must pass a background check, including fingerprinting, pre‑employment physical/drug test, and verification of employment history prior to appointment.

Physical Requirements: This position requires lifting heavy objects, working in confined spaces, squatting, climbing, kneeling, bending, and stooping.

License: Travel throughout the county is required. Employees must provide a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance. Transportation will be the responsibility of the employee.

Shifts: The County has facilities, including Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, that operate 24/7; work schedule may vary to ensure coverage in case of emergencies.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County does not consider candidates who require visa sponsorship. Candidates must be able to present a legal right to work in the United States.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates may qualify through one of the following options:

  • Option 1:
    Four (4) years of journey‑level, full‑time equivalent experience installing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing plumbing components in large institutional, industrial, or hospital buildings.
  • Option 2:
    Possession of a Plumbing Journeyman's License issued by LA City, or a C36 Contractor's License issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs Contractors State License Board.
  • Option 3:
    Successful completion of a formal (minimum 4‑year) plumbing apprenticeship program resulting in journey‑level status. Indicate apprenticeship provider and dates of the program, including completion date.

Note: Residential and food service plumbing experience is not considered qualifying.
