Position Description

Student assistants will assist with the Promise Scholars Program (PSP) recruitment efforts on- and off-campus with an opportunity to build leadership experience and hone public‑speaking skills. They will learn the overall aspects of community outreach and event planning and engage in professional development opportunities to learn more about working in academia and the public sector.

Students should have the ability to effectively communicate to students/families about program requirements and benefits.

Operationally, student assistants will respond to inquiries and prospective students to encourage applying to PSP, follow up with current Promise scholars, and provide support with completing program requirements and/or encouraging class registration.

Student assistants should be willing to take initiative to be knowledgeable about the college and support programs in order to best provide information and awareness to prospective/incoming PSP students. They should maintain effective working relationships with other college departments and external partners that participate in campus‑wide events and promote PSP.

Student assistants will assist in the creation and distribution of college and PSP‑specific materials such as flyers, etc., and work with the administrative and counseling teams to further support student retention, persistence, and completion.

Requirements

Detail-oriented with good written and oral communication, excellent customer service skills, outgoing/social, active listener, possessing organizational and time management skills, able to serve as a positive role‑model for peers, collaborative, and fostering a teamwork environment, computer/technical literacy.

Obtains a vehicle, valid driver’s license, and driver’s insurance (preferred).

This is a Federal Work Study position and applicants must be eligible.

Hours: 20 hours per week
