Powertrain Mechanical Engineer, Battery Overview Responsibilities

• Design components, subassemblies, and systems
• Perform analysis (models/simulation) to support design decisions
• Plan/execute development tests to support design decisions
• Work with external vendors and internal manufacturing/fabrication teams to build hardware
• Work with the testing team to support verification testing of hardware

• B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering
• 2+ years of industry work experience; preferably “full-stack” with exposure to test, design, equipment/component selection, hands-on builds, bring-up and troubleshooting (can include internships, university clubs, team programs, and full-time positions)
• Proficiency with professional 3D modeling software, preferably with Catia 3D Experience
• Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, and analysis
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills
• Strong analytical background – able to use first principles to drive/inform design

• M.S./Ph.D. in a relevant field of study
• 5+ years of working experience in automotive or aerospace industry
• Experience with Dassault Systemes CAD, specifically using generative shape design, part design, and assembly design
• Experience with finite element tools (Abaqus)
• Direct battery engineering experience

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $96,200 - $160,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
