Job description

About 1X

We’re an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.

We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That’s why we’re focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life.

We’re looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we’d be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.

Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Harness Technician to join our team. You will be responsible for building high-quality wire harnesses and cable assemblies from schematics, performing troubleshooting and repair, and ensuring our products meet exacting standards. The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on technical skills and ideally some previous electrical/harnessing background.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the engineering team.
  • Build and assemble wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electro‑mechanical sub‑assemblies from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Perform point‑to‑point continuity testing, troubleshooting, and fault isolation on completed harnesses and installed systems.
  • Execute high‑quality soldering for wires, connectors, and PCB terminals (through‑hole and basic surface‑mount).
  • Install connectors, back shells, and other components, ensuring proper crimping and strain relief.
  • Assist engineers with prototype builds, reworks, and design‑for‑manufacturability feedback.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Document work performed and report any design or process issues.
Job requirements Must Have
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with 2/3+ years of direct experience in wire harness fabrication and assembly.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings.
  • Proficiency with hand tools (crimpers, strippers, heat guns) and measurement tools (multimeter, etc).
  • IPC‑620 certification.
  • Strong soldering skills (J‑STD‑001 standards is a plus).
  • Solid troubleshooting skills to diagnose open/short circuits and connection issues.
Nice to haves
  • An Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field, OR equivalent practical experience demonstrating:
  • Understanding of basic electrical principles (voltage, current, resistance, Ohm’s Law).
  • Familiarity with components (resistors, capacitors, diodes) and their symbols/schematic representation.
  • Awareness of signal types (digital, analog, power) and shielding/grounding concepts.
  • Experience with harness board (breakout board) design or layout.
  • Experience with basic CAD software for viewing drawings.
  • IPC‑7711 / 7722 standards.
Personal Attributes

Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to producing error‑free work.

Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong problem‑solving mindset.

Excellent communication skills.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Good hand‑eye coordination and dexterity for working with small wires and components.

Benefits & Compensation

Salary Range: $45 - $60 per hour
