Leveraging its unique gyroscopic motion and self-shielded design, our product, the ZAP-X®, is disrupting the industry and opening new frontiers in modern radiosurgery. About

the Role

The Software Escalation Engineer (C++/C#), serves as the bridge between the field and product development, combining technical investigation, software development, and cross-functional collaboration. A typical day may involve investigating and reproducing a software issue reported from a clinical site, developing diagnostic or service tools, implementing software improvements, or partnering with engineering teams to bring new capabilities into the ZAP-X System. This engineer supports four technology areas: the control-system stack (C#, C++, Structured Text, and TwinCAT), the planning-platform stack (C++ and Type Script), patient management (DICOM, JSON, and PostgreSQL), and the networking and cybersecurity layer (TCP/IP, REST, gRPC, and HIPAA/GDPR compliance).

The engineer delivers solutions to ZAP Surgical's clinical sites worldwide: the US, Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The position is ideally based in San Carlos, California, but ZAP will consider outstanding candidates from the EU.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Service teams to reproduce and document discrepancy reports from clinical users.
  • Lead R&D engineers to root-cause and resolve component discrepancies.
  • Develop, with R&D and Production engineers, new features for ZAP-X operations and manufacturing.
  • Assist the Regulatory and Quality Assurance teams with design documentation in support of the ZAP Quality Manual.
  • Assist the R&D and Quality Assurance teams with the execution of test procedures prior to product release.
  • Develop testing suites to verify the implementation of a component's design automatically and continuously.
  • Travel periodically to remote sites to assist Service teams with the installation of ZAP-X components.
Primary Requirements
  • Bachelors or Masters degrees in computer science, physics or engineering.
  • Software development experience with C#, C++, .NET, and Python.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a distributed team.
Desired Experience
  • Five to ten years of experience integrating software tools into complex hardware devices.
  • Experience supporting or developing software components in a regulated industry.
  • Motion control knowledge and development experience with ACS or Beckhoff controllers (or equivalent).
