Type:

Reports To: Test Engineering Supervisor / Production Manager

Position Summary

The EMS Test Operator / Debug Technician is responsible for performing functional, in-circuit, and system-level testing of electronic assemblies and products in a high-mix, low-to-medium volume manufacturing environment. This position supports production by identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving test failures, while working closely with Test Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and customers to ensure product conformance and timely shipment.

The ideal candidate possesses strong electronic troubleshooting skills, can communicate technical issues clearly, and is comfortable interacting with customers to provide status updates, failure analysis results, and corrective action recommendations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform functional, in-circuit (ICT), boundary scan, environmental, and system-level testing of electronic assemblies and finished products.
  • Execute test procedures, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation accurately.
  • Troubleshoot and debug failures to the component, board, cable, or system level using schematics, drawings, test software, and diagnostic tools.
  • Analyze test data and identify root causes of product failures.
  • Document troubleshooting activities, repair actions, and test results in manufacturing and quality systems.
  • Work closely with Test Engineers to improve test coverage, yields, and process efficiency.
  • Assist in validating test fixtures, test programs, and equipment.
  • Escalate complex failures to engineering with detailed technical findings and supporting data.
  • Support MRB, quality investigations, corrective actions, and customer returns (RMA) activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve first-pass yield.
  • Maintain test equipment calibration and ensure proper operation of all test assets.
  • Follow ESD, IPC, quality, safety, and company procedures at all times.

Customer-Facing Responsibilities

  • Communicate technical test and debug findings to customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Participate in customer meetings, production reviews, and failure analysis discussions.
  • Provide technical status updates regarding testing, troubleshooting progress, and corrective actions.
  • Assist customers in interpreting failure data, root cause analysis, and verification results.
  • Support customer audits and technical inquiries related to test operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of electronics manufacturing, test, or troubleshooting experience in an EMS environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • Schematics
    • PCB layouts
    • Assembly drawings
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Experience using:
    • Digital multimeters
    • Oscilloscopes
    • Power supplies
    • Signal generators
    • Automated test equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of electronic components and circuits.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
