Role Description

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Senior Accountant who will provide accurate, timely, and reliable financial reports by demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to excellence—thereby enhancing the organization’s financial operations and supporting strategic decision-making. This role is responsible for performing core essential accounting functions such as conducting financial analysis, preparing month-end reports, assisting with annual audits, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in San Diego, California, for the role of Senior Accountant.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Supervise full-cycle Accounts Payable — processing vendor invoices, payment processing, 1099 tracking.
  • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations; conduct monthly bank statement reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger; record and post journal entries (accruals, prepayments, reclasses, fixed assets, etc.) in support of monthly and quarterly close cycles.
  • Support month-end close processes — ensure all entries are posted, balance sheet accounts reconciled, and financial data reviewed for accuracy.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including fixed assets, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other key ledger accounts.
  • Support preparation of internal financial reports and, when needed, external financial statements — help ensure compliance with company policies and generally accepted accounting practices.
  • Assist with audit preparation — gather supporting documentation, coordinate with external auditors, and help with audit requests.
  • Assist with annual and tax preparation by organizing financial data, maintaining supporting schedules, and coordinating with external tax preparers or CPA firms.
  • Assist the Accounting and Payroll Specialist in process bi-monthly payroll, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll. Verify 403B contribution report to 403B provider.
  • Reviews annual benefit enrollment and 403B enrollment data details/changes.
  • Enters, reviews, updates new hires, terminations, and changes to existing employee information.
  • Coordinate with the Accounts Receivable and Inventory Manager to reconcile the inventory counts to the general ledger.
  • Assist with preparing grant reports, contract budgets, quarterly Board reports, annual budgets.
  • Help identify and implement process improvements and internal control enhancements to streamline accounting procedures and increase efficiency.
  • Participate in special projects, ad-hoc financial analysis, and cross-department collaboration as needed to support organization operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned as they relate to CASAS priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 5 or more years direct experience in accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, accounting, finance from a U.S. accredited college or university. Master’s in accounting or master s candidate preferred.

  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standard accounting practices.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (SAGE) or other CRM software
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members across departments, as well as work independently when needed.
