Overview
The Accountant I performs entry- to intermediate-level accounting (based on level) duties including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting support. This role works under supervision and follows established policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial records and regulatory compliance.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting
Prepare routine journal entries with appropriate documentation.
Perform general ledger reconciliations.
Assist with month-end close.
Maintain fixed asset schedules.
Accounts Payable
Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding to general ledger.
Match invoices to purchase orders and approvals.
Prepare weekly payment runs (checks, ACH).
Maintain AP aging reports.
Assist with 1099 reporting.
Prepare AP accrual entries at month-end.
Maintain vendor files (subject to independent review and approval).
Compliance & Controls
Follow established internal control procedures.
Ensure documentation supports all disbursements.
Support audit and exam requests related to AP.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree is required. Bacherlor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferered.
- 1-3 years related experience.
- Credit union and/or banking (financial institution) experience preferred.
- Good working knowledge of general accounting including the application of general accounting theory is preferred.
- To perform this job, the employee must possess strong interpersonal skills, good writing skills and a high degree of personal initiative. Must have the ability to interface with all levels of management and staff, and external contacts and vendors within the course of routine activities.
- Working knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
