The Junior Reinsurance Accounting Analyst reports to a Manager, Accounting and will support our reinsurance accounting operations. This role will be responsible for executing key accounting functions such as performing accurate and timely Monthly Journal Entry Preparation, General Ledger Account Reconciliation and Schedule Maintenance, Bank Reconciliations, Audits and Reporting. The ability to generate reports by pulling data from multiple systems, consolidating, and analyzing the data is required.
Critical thinking and adherence to internal deadlines as well as state required deadlines is a must.
- Execute monthly and quarterly closing procedures for reinsurance transactions, including reconciliations and detailed financial analyses
- Prepare and maintain journal entry templates in an accurate and timely manner, providing clear commentary on results and conducting variance and trend analyses
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reinsurance settlement statements in accordance with contractual terms and established deadlines
- Prepare and review monthly cash application journals to ensure proper recording and allocation of reinsurance-related cash activity
- Collaborate with external partners and brokers to review and reconcile reinsurance settlement statements, proactively following up to ensure timely collection of outstanding balances
- Assist the reinsurance team in maintaining critical operational trackers, including the reinsurance collateral database
- Support ad hoc projects and perform additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent
- 1-2 years’ of accounting experience - insurance industry preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Excel (Pivot Tables, Lookups, Formulas), Word, Power Point and Outlook - Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task and be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment with demanding internal and external deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and keen attention to detail
