Our client is a growing construction company focused on delivering high-quality multifamily, affordable housing, and mixed-use development projects throughout California. They are the construction arm of a strong vertically integrated real estate investment and development firm that acquires, finances, develops, and manages residential, retail, and affordable housing assets. The firm combines investment management, bridge lending, construction, development, and property management under one platform, allowing it to oversee projects from acquisition through long-term operations.
Since its founding in 2009, our client has completed more than $1 billion in debt and equity real estate transactions.
They are seeking an experienced Finance & Accounting professional to lead the financial operations of our growing construction platform based in San Diego, California. This position is responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, project accounting, budgeting, and funding activities across multiple construction projects.
The ideal candidate will possess deep construction accounting experience and advanced expertise in Procore, which serves as the backbone of our project budgeting, cost management, change order, and financial control processes. This role requires a strategic leader who can partner with project management, operations, and executive leadership while maintaining strong financial discipline and accurate reporting.

- Serve as the primary financial administrator and subject matter expert for Procore.
- Oversee project budgets, commitments, contracts, change orders, cost forecasting, and job cost reporting.
- Monitor project financial performance, identify budget variances and risks, and support corrective action plans.
- Ensure accurate budget-to-actual reporting, cash flow forecasting.
- Review subcontractor billings, pay applications, retainage balances, and project-related financial activity.
- Ensuring subcontractor compliance, lien waivers and any other documents required are obtained in a timely manner.
- Lead all accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures.
- Coordinate with developer to ensure construction loan draws are submitted in a timely manner and to ensure addressing the questions raised by lenders on the pay apps in a timely manner.
- Monitor project liquidity and cash requirements to support ongoing operations.
- Communicating with Corporate regarding the project's profitability, and the company's working capital requirement, financial results on a monthly basis.
- Partner with project managers, operations, and executive leadership on financial planning and decision-making.
- Drive process improvements and strengthen financial systems, controls, and reporting capabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant construction accounting experience.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience in a Controller, Director of Finance, or similar leadership role.
- Advanced proficiency in Procore, including budgeting, cost management, commitments, change orders, and financial reporting.
- Strong experience with Yardi and integrated accounting systems.
- Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial controls.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects and complex funding structures.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with affordable housing development projects.
- Familiarity with LIHTC, public financing programs, and construction lending requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes and implement financial systems at scale.
