Summary

Our client, a well-established real estate company, is seeking a Director of Financial Reporting to join its accounting leadership team. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, this individual will lead external financial reporting, SEC compliance, technical accounting, and internal controls while partnering closely with leadership across the organization. Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and filing of SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required disclosures.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to external auditors, coordinating audit timelines, deliverables, and issue resolution.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new accounting standards while preparing technical accounting memos for complex transactions and reporting matters.
  • Oversee SOX compliance and internal controls over financial reporting, including process documentation, testing support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Internal Audit and business leaders to evaluate control effectiveness, remediate deficiencies, and strengthen the overall control environment.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and financial consolidation processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and financial reporting team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA required (active status not required).
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
  • Relevant real estate industry experience is required.
  • Strong SEC reporting and technical accounting experience.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly lease accounting, revenue recognition, financing transactions, and stock-based compensation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare technical accounting memos, financial disclosures, and audit committee materials for both accounting and non-accounting audiences.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders across the organization.
