Payroll Supervisor

The Scripps Research Institute is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead payroll operations and ensure accurate, compliant payroll processing for a diverse workforce. What You'll Do

• Supervise and mentor the payroll team
• Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing for salaried, hourly, and stipend-based employees
• Review payroll records, salary changes, deductions, and timekeeping data
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Partner with HR and Finance to resolve payroll issues and employee inquiries
• Conduct payroll audits and prepare management reports
• Manage payroll and tax compliance for foreign national employees and non-employees
• Administer Glacier tax software and oversee international tax reporting (1042/1042-S)
• Drive payroll process improvements and best practices

Required Qualifications

• Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• 5+ years of payroll experience
• 3+ years leading or supervising a payroll team
• Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
• Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, UKG, or similar platforms
• Advanced Excel skills
• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
• International payroll and foreign national tax experience
• Experience with Glacier tax software
