We have a long and proven track record having developed over 100+ self-storage facilities and industrial properties since 1987. We operate our own general contracting, property management and development companies, empowering us to maintain control over project timelines, budgetary considerations, operations, site design and selection.

Our integrated approach allows us to oversee every detail from site selection to design conceptualization while building real estate assets.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Accounting Department and support a growing portfolio of real estate investments and construction projects. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with a background in real estate or construction who is comfortable managing property-level and entity-level financials. We are looking for someone who can work cross-functionally with operations teams and contribute to month-end close and financial reporting for multiple entities.

The selected candidate will work on-site at our downtown San Diego office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle accounting including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Act as backup and support in the lender draw process.
  • Manage job cost tracking, maintain and reconcile job cost projects between entities.
  • Review and process accounts receivable, ensuring proper coding to the correct property, GL account, and cost center.
  • Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual variance reports for property and portfolio-level performance.
  • Provide support to the CFO in all refinancing and construction loans.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple real estate entities/properties, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Assist with debt compliance reporting and lender reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure accurate and timely financial data.
  • Support quarterly and annual audits, including preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor requests.
  • Assist with cash management, including bank reconciliations and funding requests across multiple entities.
  • Support the preparation of investor reporting packages and distribution calculations.
  • Assist with tax return preparation coordination (partnership/LLC structures) alongside external tax advisors.
  • Support the implementation of process improvements that increase accounting efficiency and accuracy, including automations, workflow tools, and system integrations (e.g., QBO app integrations, bank feed automation, bill-pay platforms, and reporting dashboards for investor management).
  • Evaluate and streamline manual processes by leveraging technology (e.g., automated reconciliations, recurring journal entry templates, AP/AR automation tools) to reduce close time and minimize errors.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 2 to 5 years of accounting experience, with direct experience in real estate and/or construction accounting (property management, real estate investment/development, or general contracting).
  • Proficiency in Quick Books Online (QBO) required.
  • Strong understanding of real estate-specific and construction/WIP accounting concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience improving processes, implementing new systems, or driving efficiency initiatives within an accounting function.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to high-quality work.
  • Motivated self-starter capable of both detailed execution and high-level review.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-entity/multi-property accounting environments preferred.
  • Experience with accounting automation tools and third-party integrations () strongly preferred.
